Baxter is the name of the dead golden retriever revealed in the opening of Ginger Snaps. He was murdered by the Beast of Bailey Downs.
History[]
An unnamed mother raking leaves in her backyard discovers her toddler son examining a severed paw he found in his sandbox. In shock, the mother picks up her toddler and checks on Baxter, who she discovers has been eviscerated in two, mauled to death by the Beast. The mother then runs to street and loudly exclaims "It got our dog, it got Baxter!". A couple neighborhood kids playing field hockey on the road and Brigitte who was just leaving the garage to take props for the school project to the basement bedroom, briefly take note. Brigitte then tells Ginger that Baxter "is fertilizer".
Significance[]
He is the first victim of the Beast in the movie and the first dead in the movie.
Production[]
Baxter never appears as a live dog in the film. His remains were built by Paul Jones, the film's special effects artist.
