Ginger Snaps Wiki

The County Greenhouse was a building in Bailey Downs that served as main base of operations for the County Regreening Programme and Sam's gardening business. Here, Sam was growing plants that he could plant at municipal areas around the community. He also used it for private research and to grow marijuana that he could sell to paying customers. On Halloween 1999, the greenhouse served as the location for the Greenhouse Bash Halloween party.

Structure[]

The facility consisted of at least three long greenhouses standing side by side. Their short ends had entrance doors and faced a parking lot.

The facility consists of at least three greenhouses.

The main door led into one of the houses. At the foremost end was the main section which was open for customers. This was a single large room that housed a wide array of plants from little trees to shrubs and flowers, standing on the floor, on pedestals or racks. At the other end of this room was a door that led into a section that was typically for staff only. Here, Sam had a workbench that he used for experiments with his plants, a desk, bookshelves and more plants. When going further inward you reach Sam's office on the other end.

Sam's office[]

Sam's office contained a desk and a bed to the left of the door. Here, the glass roof of the greenhouse was covered on the inside with suspended drapes. The wall next to the bed was covered with a forest wallpaper. Opposite to this workspace, to the right of the door, a smaller section of the room was closed off with tarps. Here, Sam grew marijuana plants. When sitting on the desk, you could see into the staff-only section through a window.

In the movie[]

The greenhouse is first seen when Brigitte visits Sam the day after she discovered Ginger's tail. Sam is working on a plant on his workbench in the middle section of the greenhouse. They talk about possible solutions to the werewolf infection.

The next appearance is on the day of Ginger's assault on Trina when Brigitte and her sister go there together. This time, we first see Sam's office with his small marijuana farm.

On the morning of Halloween, the greenhouse is already prepared for the party

On Halloween, Brigitte arrives at the greenhouse with the dried Monkshood. The main section was already cleared of most plants and decorated for Halloween in preparation for the party on that night. She meets Sam in the staff section and later they prepare the monkshood serum in his office.

Greenhouse Bash[]

On the evening, the Greenhouse Bash Halloween party takes place in the main section of the greenhouse. It's decorated with stringlights, camouflage nets and other Halloween-themed items like plastic bats, jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins. The party is well-attended and Ben and Tim are also there. We see Ginger going all the way through the entire greenhouse, including the previously seen staff-only section which is calm and not used for the party, to Sam's office where she tries to seduce him. But ultimately, he rejects her. She then lashes out and injures him in response. Brigitte enters the room at the same time, and, at her breaking point, pleads with Ginger to take her instead of harming others. Brigitte cuts her hand and places it on Ginger's bloody palm, thereby infecting herself, to remind her of their former sisterly bond. Both then leave the party to go home to prepare another dose of the cure when Sam, not knowing this, knocks Ginger out with a shovel.

Notes[]

In the original final draft of the script, the greenhouse was supposed to feature at least two levels and a large fountain in the center. During the struggle between Brigitte and Ginger in Sam's office, in this version located at the upper level, Brigitte fell through a window into the fountain, receiving deadly injuries. She then had to infect herself with Ginger's blood to survive. Budget considerations led to these scenes getting cancelled and the story around Brigitte's self-infection was changed.

The name "County Greenhouse" is mentioned in dialogue when Brigitte tells her mother where Ginger is.
