Mr. Wayne is a teacher and school guidance counselor at Bailey Downs High School.
Occupation[]
Although it is not explicitly shown in film, Mr. Wayne was possibly a social studies/geography or history teacher at Bailey Downs High School. He also seems to be the Fitzgerald sisters' class teacher.[Notes 1] Interestingly, he also serves as a guidance counselor at the school, having his own office.
In the movie[]
We first see Mr. Wayne as Brigitte's and Ginger's teacher during the presentation of their school project[Notes 2]. After showing visible distaste in the chosen subject matter, he tells them to come to his office after class.[Notes 3]
He is mentioned again after Ginger beats up Trina Sinclair when Ms. Sykes sends her to the guidance office[Notes 4]. In the movie the subsequent meeting is not shown but it was part of a deleted scene[1]. In this scene we learn that Mr. Wayne has two kids. He plans to suspend Ginger from school. Brigitte pressures him into letting Ginger off the hook by threatening him with made up sexual harassment allegations and succeeds. In the completed movie, we never learn what happened during the meeting[Notes 5], but the subsequent reaction by Ginger ("This is wall-worthy") when they leave the hallway remains the same.
He is mentioned in dialogue during dinner at the Fitzgerald house, when Pamela reveals that he called her asking about Ginger's absense and illness.[Notes 6]
On Halloween, Mr. Wayne encounters Ginger in the school hallway flashing in front of Ben and Tim. He calls her to his office immediately. The following meeting in the office is once again only shown in a deleted scene[2]. In this scene, Ginger apparently told him that Brigitte hit her and locked her in the bathroom. He tells her that he thinks Brigitte exhibited dangerous abusive behaviour towards Ginger, who laughs it off. He then proceeds to tell the Announcer to page Brigitte to the guidance office. When he reveals that he wants to notify their parents and reaches for his phone, Ginger reacts with violence. In the actual movie, the only part of this meeting that remained was the fact that Brigitte was called to the guidance office via the PA system. After she enters the office she finds a bloodied Mr.Wayne slumped over his desk, dead.
Significance[]
The first scene depicting the sisters in public (apart from their taking pictures outside) is in Mr. Wayne's classroom. He appears visibly disgusted by the sister's presentation choice in response to the prompt "Life in Bailey Downs." This further angers the sisters who already distrusted the students and teachers at Bailey Downs High and reinforces their beliefs that they shouldn't approach their teachers/grown-ups for any advice.
His death caused by Ginger Fitzgerald could pinpoint when Ginger started to get out of control, and could be the point where Brigitte truly understands how serious the situation has become (where Ginger had previously murdered Norman the dog and presumably Morley, now she has murdered a teacher, followed by the janitor).
Notes[]
- ↑ He was the one who called Pamela when Ginger skipped classes due to an alledged sickness.
- ↑ This happened on the first schoolday we see in the movie, taking place on October 2, 1999.
- ↑ This meeting is neither shown nor mentioned again in the movie.
- ↑ This happened on the day of Trina's death and disappearance, October 24, 1999.
- ↑ A line of dialogue that was spoken by him inside the office in the presence of both sisters is reused in the finished movie but only overheard by Brigitte standing outside.
- ↑ This happens on the day before Halloween, October 30, 1999. See Timeline
