Aconitum, also known as monkshood and several other names, is a genus of over 250 species of flowering plants belonging to the family Ranunculaceae. Importantly, monkshood is poisonous plant that, when injected into the blood stream, supposedly has anti-lycanthropy effects. However, the events of Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed show that creating a serum from the plant only works as a temporary treatment to hold off werewolf transformation, and not as a permanent cure.
Toxicology[]
Monkshood contains substantial amounts of the highly toxic chemical aconitine and other alkaloids, especially concentrated in their roots and tubers. Aconitine is a potent neurotoxin and cardiotoxin
Uses[]
Medicinal[]
Traditional Medicine[]
In small amounts in humans, the plant is used in treatments like aromatherapy.
Lycanthropy Cure[]
Monkshood is a hypothesised cure to lycanthropy; however, it is later seen that monkshood extract only acts as a temporary relief and only slows down the transformation rate.
Poisonous Agent[]
In larger doses and when taken internally, monkshood is extremely dangerous to humans. A fatal dose can be achieved with small amounts of extract.
